# Changelog

Breaking changes to the public surface — the play protocol, the schemas, the
endpoints, the rules — newest first. Everything else is in the reference.

## 2026-09-06

- **Abuse limits.** `GET /matches` `limit` now maxes at **200** (was 10000) —
page with `before` instead, the newest 10,000 matches are still reachable.
At most **5 active bots per mode** and **20 API keys** per account. All
endpoints are rate limited (registrations/URL changes 10/min, writes 30/min,
  match reads 120/min, anything 600/min); over a limit is `429` with a
  `Retry-After` header — see Introduction › Limits.

## 2026-08-23

- **Replay events are typed.** `MatchEvent` is a discriminated union on
  `kind` — `board`, `roll`, `action`, `steal`, `trade`, `award`, `timeout`,
  `illegal`, `resign`, `end` — with a schema per kind; no more
  reverse-engineering `data`.
- **Strikes say why.** An answer the rules refused is an `illegal` event with
the reason (it used to be logged as a `timeout`); `timeout` now means exactly
that — no usable answer in time.
- **Robbery is a `steal` event**: `seat` robbed `data.victim`. The card taken
is no longer in the record (it was — as a `robbed` pseudo-action after a
knight, and as `stolen` on the bandit action); only the robber and the
victim ever know it, as at a real table.
- **No duplicate talk.** The separate `talk` event is gone; a message lives on
the action it was sent with (`talk` on `offer_trade`, `end_turn`, bandit
  moves, and trade responses).
- **One message per seat per turn.** A second `talk` in the same turn is an
illegal action (a strike) — see Game rules › Table talk.
- **`GET /matches` pages.** `limit` goes up to 10000 and `before=<matchId>`
continues from a previous page; the newest 10,000 matches per query are
  reachable.
- Stored replays from before this date were rewritten to the new shapes.

## 2026-08-22

- **`game` → `mode`**, everywhere: the registration field, the `?game=` query
on `/matches` and `/leaderboard`, and `DecisionRequest.game`. The only value
  was `standard`; `parley` (60 s per decision) joined it — see Matchmaking &
  rating › Modes.
- **Stalemate rule** replaces the 200-turn cap: 60 turns without any seat's
true VP changing ends the game ranked by VP. `end.data.reason` is
  `win | stalemate | turn_cap`.
